Perched atop a cliff overlooking the Henry's Fork of the Snake River in the shadow of Ashton, Idaho, with the Grand Teton mountain range subtly present in the distance - I found myself with a renewed passion for exploring the riches of capturing significant moments in time. It was here in this wilderness of Southeast Idaho, that I rediscovered a lost truth. After events in my own personal life led me down a path that resulted in some very unsure footing in a variety of friendships and significant relationships in my life - I found myself greatly distanced from people that I loved and cared deeply for. During this new chapter of life (and maybe you can relate) - I began to sense a growing loneliness and sense of loss, even a gnawing exclusion from a community of those whom I had invested my very life into.
In the pursuit of love. honesty, and becoming genuine with myself - I found myself alienated and distanced from those who called me friend, who considered me no longer welcome. Suddenly, I knew what I had always feared - and it hurt. Distance, as it seems, is a common friend to those who wander, searching for something more significant than mediocrity. Distance, though surrounded by people who still cared for me - became something of a traveling companion - and even though not always an appreciated traveling companion - soon became a welcomed friend. For it was this Distance that spurred me to search beyond myself to rediscover a truth that I had taught for decades to others, a truth that I still hold dear to - now remembered and lived out personally.
In the wild places of this world, in the lonely places, devoid of others, removed from distractions - I rediscovered a place of belonging. Although, I was not alone. The Table is my personal undertaking to remind those who journey in life and find loss, loneliness, exclusion, rejection, segregation, diminishment, abandonement, or simply feel forgotten or lost - that there is a place for you...a place to stand.
Regardless of the wilderness you find yourself in...no matter where you find yourself...or where you've come from...know that there is a space for you at His Table.
