Don't you simply love those unexpected moments that catch you by surprise. The good ones - that is. This past year-plus has been one of searching. Seems like we are looking for something worthwhile...something worth remembering. I find that the moments that simply catch me by surprise and make me stop and take notice, well, there's something behind those moments.
Farm implements set against a fiery horizon as the winter sun sets caused me to take notice one cold February evening. I had been looking for something that would be worth stopping for. Seems that too often I'm seeing a beautiful sky without a foreground to set it off. Well, I finally found a moment...and in that moment, I found myself reminded of growing up in the Midwest. It was there among the fields and farmlands that I grew up and cherished the good things that the land offered. The memories of helping out on the farm reminded me of hard work from dawn 'til dusk and watching as the sun would slip away each evening. It is in those moments that you realize that hard labor and helping one another to work the land are a much bigger picture than what it seems at the time. May you be reminded that good friends, family and faith in the One who created this land are a much greater treasure than passing fads and unfulfilled dreams.
Thankful for the colors of this world that remind me of warmth - that even on the cold days there is a hope of something, or should I say Someone, much bigger than ourselves, who is present in our everyday. Even though this image was taken in Southeast Idaho in February, it somehow reminds me of growing up in the Midwest and the skies that always have a story to tell of a much greater glory!
