Moments are so precious when you suddenly see something that has been right in front of you all along, and yet your eyes become clear enough to see it in a new light! Lynn and I were out exploring one fall day in Victor, Idaho, when we happened upon a grove of aspen trees. I have always loved the sound of aspen leaves fluttering in the wind, dancing on an autumn breeze. In moments of quiet, there is nothing quite as peaceful as sitting under the shade of an aspen and enjoying the song that it creates as it wrestles with the wind.
As I photographed this particular grove of trees, I noticed a figure set apart from the rest. This equestrian spirit among the woods seemed to be frolicking amidst it's Northwestern playground. I am ever surprised at how art reveals significance in our everyday lives. After taking this image I was reminded that often times, I have been so quick to overlook a group of people only to miss the individuals that are precious in and of themselves. Even as I write this, I am saddened by my inability to see the individual and appreciate them for who they are amongst the masses.
One of the aspects of photography that I value most - is the ability to freeze a moment in time, to hold onto it, to come back to it, to remember the significance of a moment, to remember the significance of an individual, and to appreciate and hold dear that which is worth holding on to. Sometimes, it is simply so important to change your perspective and see something, or someone from another perspective - from another angle than what you are used to. May you make the time today to stop, walk around and see something or someone from a different perspective that it might widen your understanding and discover something new that you hadn't noticed before.
